History of Faculty of Geomatics


THE FACULTY OF GEOMATICS
The faculty of Geomatics is one of the five faculties of the Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka and was established in 2004. It is the successor of the department of surveying sciences, which introduced the B.Sc. (Surveying Sciences) Degree program in 1997. This was the first time in the history of the university system in Sri Lanka that such a Degree program was introduced by a university fulfilling much felt need of the country. The degree program is a four-year course leading to a special degree. The first batch of student were admitted in 1997 and Graduated in 2002. Presently,The faculty has a student population of about 210 with about 50 graduating annually.
The Faculty, with predecessor, Department of Surveying sciences, has a history of 10 years with a total of 227 students graduating since 2002.
The present faculty consists of two departments:
  • Department of Surveying and Geodesy
  • Department of Cartography, Photogrammetry ,Remote Sensing and GIS
Welfare society of Faculty of Geomatic was started in year 2002.The main purpose of the welfare society is to create real brotherhood, though together with our members. Society was planned to give donations and some helps when members will face special situations. Otherwise the society will involve the special occasions of the Faculty of Geometics or any other related things.
